...Well. That was a hot mess. And I say this as someone whose favorite episode is still "Brown Betty," so I like it when Fringe gets even weirder than usual.

I just...what was the point of all that? We got cartoons running around in Olivia's mind, and some cheap armchair psychoanalysis of her: she hides when she's scared (Really? 'Cause I got the impression from the rest of the series that she went out and kicked some ass when she got scared), she last felt safe before the Cortexiphan trials (which would be when she was two, and anyway it's not like she even remembered them until sometime in season one), and she's ready to "move forward" past these inner roadblocks that until this episode I was unaware existed. WTF?

And in addition to a negligible character story, we didn't even move forward on the plot very much: okay, Bell's gone for good (until they can get Nimoy again, and thus figure out a way to resurrect him once more), but that's about it. Hell, when Peter and Olivia were alone together at the end, she didn't even mention that the last thing she heard before getting taken over by Bell was Peter confessing that he'd killed the shapeshifters. Has she forgotten? 'Cause I'd think that would weigh on her mind, crazy LSD trip or not.

And the very end is her saying she thinks the mystery man is the man who's going to kill her, which makes no sense. I would ordinarily be okay with that, but following on the heels of this wretched episode, it just pisses me off.

Resolved: the only good things about this episode were Broyles on an acid trip and Astrid calling Walter "Wally" when he got her name wrong again. Okay, I also liked her downloading Zoom for him and offering to watch it with him, but that was it.

You know, I find it endlessly fascinating how different reactions to the same episode can be. This is my favorite episode of Fringe ever, and is probably going to end up in my top ten favorite episodes of television of all time. I watched the whole thing with heart eyes and little rainbows coming out of my ears.

You know, I've come to the conclusion that for all we like a lot of the same shows, we clearly like very different things when it comes to those shows. Heeeeeee.

Yeah, like, I can totally, totally already see how this episode is going to be divisive, and people aren't going to like it. I'll be curious to see the reactions trickling in over the next day or so (and whether I need to bug out for a bit, LOL).

I loved it, but I've also missed about the last four eps so I'm totally out of the overreaching plot to begin with. But then, that's never been my #1 priority with about any show (get too caught up in the "mythology" of it all and that's when I lose interest), so it fit my preferences just fine. I'm guessing the purpose was to come up with a way to introduce the mystery future guy as the New Big Bad, although I'm also guessing Bell had a way to imbed some of his memories/knowledge before he left so the whole incident will be revisited at some point. Or maybe this just cemented her as some sort of bridge between the two universes. *shrug* Don't know, but I'm content to find out when they get around to revealing it.

Lolwhuuuuuuuut?? Okay, this was very funny, but also very stupid. I'm with you: I do not like seeing Olivia get wimpy for no good reason other than they need to twist her into that shape to fit the plot, and argh. Olivia does go out and kick some ass when she's scared! At the very least, she gets angry. The only things she hides from are feeeeelings, and I don't think being possessed is a feeeeeeling, exactly. And the "moving forward"... what? She already did move forward as far as feeeeeelings (lol, fun to type) go, and that little thread is resolved. I'm gonna have to go with the theory that Peter did "kick something loose" while he was in there, or else Bell did. (The nonchalant toast-eating was fun?)

I really liked Peter in this one - tripping!Peter was hilarious, and the uncontrolled, full-body panic he was in after getting hit by the truck was... startling, but well done. And at least he recognized the fake Olivia this time, although it wasn't exactly rocket science. (Wimpy Olivia = fake, obviously! Oh show, good for you.)

But perhaps the best part of this episode was playing Spot The Stunt We Could Never Afford Outside Of A Cartoon game, bwahaha!
