OMG!

I appear to be awash with good news today and this week. The English MA program director at Boston College just gave me a call and said they'd accepted me into the program. Woot!

Apparently they won't have their funding worked out until the beginning of next month, so no promises there, which is unfortunate; however, he thought it was likely that I would get funding, so cross your fingers for me, eh?

Squeeee!

(...Karma is going to do something HORRIBLE to me soon, isn't it?)

Hey, congrats! Choice is nice; funding is nicer ;)

I am keeping my fingers crossed that karma is nicer to you than it's been to me in recent weeks, when it seems it's feast or famine!

Yes, Boston, she is pricey. But she is also of the awesome, though if you decide to go there, I hope you like snow!

I meant to comment before on the apparent trend of calling accepted applicants--I still can't believe I got a phone call a year ago. It really threw me. Is this a common thing now?

Weren't you supposed to hear from UC last week or this week?

Yup! First week of March. I'm not sure if the fail belongs to UC or the post office, though.

BECCA WINS AGAIN!

Dude, I'm standing guard with a machete so your karma keeps going the way it's going. Kind of awesome that they called you...don't you feel loved? And hopefully funded?

P.S. Do not talk near me about expensive housing.

Muahaha. I'll arm Jane Austen, too.

*fingers crossed*

Regarding New York...you said it. Smart girl to head for Boston and Tennesseeish places.

I haven't been on LJ in a while, so I had to catch up -- congrats!!! If you ever need Knoxvegas advice, I'm your girl. And one of my good friends just moved to Boston as well... it's a mere 3 hour drive from where I live in Connecticut. :)

Oh, I have loads of advice but I'm actually at work. I'll send you a long response tomorrow.

Long story short, I know some good off-campus housing... and no classes are in McClung. Yours will probably be in HSS, which is the humanities building next to McClung. (Unfortunately, all classes get scattered across campus haphazardly.)

Let me talk to a friend who's still at UT to get the 411 on very-near-campus housing. Things have changed a lot in ~two years.

But Woodmeade South and Crossing Point are very close to UT with regularly-running bus service. To visit those, go down cumberland avenue (the main street) towards downtown, and take a right onto henley street. go across that bridge and turn left immediately after burger king. Northwood is on your right (I lived there) and Crossing Point is on your left. I also lived in Sterling University Heights, which also has regularly-running bus service... the directions are a little more confusing to get there but Mapquest Knotty Pine Way.

Some grad students lived in the upperclassman apartment-style dorm (Andy Holt Apts) but I wouldn't suggest it.

What I would suggest? a meal plan. The dining services program is fabulous.
