According to Gateworld, Stargate just got an 8th season.
Okay, so there's one part of me that's jumping up and down with glee at the prospect of another season. This part of me is sure that they'll have plenty of arc material to fill it with and make it really, really good.
The other part of me, the one that went through the X-Files debacle and is still mistrustful of any series going beyond seven seasons, is bemoaning this as a grave mistake, especially if they're working on Atlantis at the same time. (Remember B&B doing both DS9 and VOY? Not that they wouldn't have screwed up VOY anyway, but still. Also CC trying to do XF and Millennium and XF and the LGM series at the same time; Northern Exposure producers having three series going on at the same time...) The situation even has some similarities with XF...lead actor not wanting to spend so much time with it, network really pushing it, etc. However, I have a hell of a lot more faith in the creative team behind SG-1 than I ever did behind Chris Carter.
I'll be interested to see how this turns out. Cautious, but interested.

Date: 2003-07-16 06:37 pm (UTC)I would have to hurt people if that happened again. On the upside, if I does turn out bad, and if I do quit watching, then it won't bother me so much to be in England for half of S8.
Does anyone know if RDA will be back?
I haven't heard anything either way. I would imagine he's involved in some form, but I don't know how much--it might be like this season, might be more, might be less. However, if it's less, it might be interesting to see if they have him retire for some reason and come back as a "consultant" or something so he can be in fewer episodes. Thus, no chain of command, and S/J without breaking regs! *bounces* Oooh! I'd like to see that happen! *bounces some more*

See I don't know that I would be that intrested in SG-1 without Jack in it. I loveall the other character but Jack is my favorite with Sam a close second. But you never know it might work out after all.

Date: 2003-07-16 07:52 pm (UTC)With any luck, I'll be spending my junior year at the University of Exeter, which is in southwest England. Their year goes from October to June, and I'd almost certainly be using my vacations to travel around Europre rather than come home, so no home for me until the end of June. :)

I think I could do SG-1 without Jack as long as Sam gets command of the team, although I'd miss the sarcasm. (Sam is by far my favorite character, BTW, with Jack coming in second, much as I love his dialogue.) The two main things that interest me about this show are the Sam/Jack ship and the various plot threads they have going. If we had a seriously Jack-lite season, but he was with Sam during his appearances onscreen, and they kept up with the galactic power structure they've created, it would all be good for me.
