I sat down this afternoon intending to read Acts I and II of Henry V. Three hours and four acts later... I so need to read more of the histories. Henry is totally Aragorn. I had "The White Tree"--you know, the really majestic music from the lighting of the beacons--playing when I got to the St. Crispian's Day speech, and it was magnificent. I was already going to keep my copy of Shakey's complete works, but now I think I have to spend the summer reading the other histories. Along with all my comps reading. Um, maybe the histories can wait until the summer after that...

To continue in the same vein, a book meme from [livejournal.com profile] babylil:

Hardback or Paperback?
Paperback, definitely. I even have a complete works of Shakespeare in paperback.

Highlight or Underline?
Depends on the format. I highlight if it's a xeroxed copy of something, and I underline, bracket, star, and write lots of notes if it's a book. My books for school look like someone bled black all over them.

Lewis or Tolkien?
Tolkien by a mile.

E.B. White or A.A. Milne?
I [heart] E.B. White. My childhood wouldn't be the same without Charlotte's Web, The Trumpet of the Swan, or Stuart Little.

T.S. Eliot or e.e. cummings?
Not fond of either, but Eliot probably wins.

Stephen King or Dean Koontz?
Haven't read either.

Barnes & Noble or Borders?
Every B&N I've been in has had a bigger SF/F section than every Borders I've been to, so B&N wins.

Waldenbooks or B. Dalton?
What I remember of B. Dalton seems better than what I know of Waldenbooks.

Fantasy or Science Fiction?
Don't make me choose, dammit!

Horror or Suspense?
Horror, as long as it's an original concept and not just blood and gore.

Bookmark or Dogear?
I collect bookmarks, because dogearing a page is a sin.

Hemingway or Faulkner?
*shudder* Must I choose? Maybe Faulkner...

Fitzgerald or Steinbeck?
Fitzgerald. Steinbeck must die.

Homer or Plato?
Homer, at least in that translation that Käthe has where Athena gets to say, "Don't vex me, bitch."

Geoffrey Chaucer or Edmund Spenser?
Um...Spenser, I guess.

Pen or pencil?
I like writing with pencil better, but pen doesn't smear, so I use them almost exclusively.

Looseleaf or Notepad?
Spiralbound college-rule notebooks are the way to go. Actually, narrow-rule A4 is even better.

Alphabetize: By Author or By Title?
My bookcase is completely alphebetized by author. How else would you do it? Unless maybe lby Library of Congress classifications (Dewey decimals must die)...

Dustjacket: On or Off?
Either off or taped to the hard cover.

Novella or Epic?
Novella.

John Grisham or Scott Turow?
Never read either.

J.K. Rowling or Lemony Snicket?
Rowling by default, but I really want to read some Lemony Snicket at some point.

John Irving or John Updike?
Um...

Fiction or Non-fiction?
Fiction, by far.

Historical Biography or Historical Romance?
Biography.

A Few Pages per Sitting or Finish at Least a Chapter?
As much as I can get done in the time I have.

Short Story or Creative Non-fiction Essay?
Depends on who wrote it.

"It was a dark and stormy night" or "Once upon a time"?
"It was a dark and stormy night. Actually, it wasn't, but that's the weather for you."

Buy or Borrow?
Both.

Book Reviews or Word of Mouth?

Word of mouth. Book reviewers never review the ones I'm interested in.
