Fringe 5.05: "An Origin Story"

icepixieMy Yuletide assignment is a request for (one of) the kinds of story I write all the time and really enjoy, with one of my favorite characters. Score! I have three ideas percolating already. Might wind up writing more than one if time allows, especially since two of them would be good for Madness.

I can't deny I would probably have enjoyed this more had the entire hour consisted of home videos from Etta's third birthday party, perhaps with some Peter and Olivia comfort!snuggling going on in the background. I'm just finding it kind of tough to care about Etta's death when it is patently obvious that there will be timeline shenanigans bringing her back to life before the series ends. After all, if the Observers are descendants of Peter and Bluelivia, Etta has to reproduce at some point in order for all this to have happened.
(Speaking of which, I feel like Peter should've mentioned this at some point to the Observer they captured. "Hey, I'm your never-mind-how-many-greats-grandpa! Gimme some respect!" Also, why doesn't Peter remember that Etta has to reproduce to lead to the Observers, and concentrate on making the necessary timeline shenanigans happen?)
Sigh. This show is fast being reduced to a grudge-watch for me, and that makes me sad.
Looks like Peter will get super powers, though. (Also, it looks like he inherited Walter's tendency towards self-surgery. Yikes.) I want to know where Olivia's super powers went. It would be awesome if they came back, and she and Peter did some super powered world-saving.
