Music, Writing
Jun. 30th, 2010 04:09 pmHow, exactly, did iTunes decide the Scissor Sisters were obscure enough to warrant being this week's "discovery download"? I'm not complaining, as it's a good song for free, but...hell, I've heard of them, and they aren't folkies, which means they MUST have a reasonable amount of popularity. Wasn't "Laura" everywhere about six years ago?
Speaking of music, I may have bought most of Antje Duvekot's criminally small back catalogue yesterday. Dar Williams fans, you need to do yourselves a favor and listen to her right the hell now. Everyone does, because she's incredible, but I can pretty much assure Dar fans that they will be hooked. (A tip, though—find the live versions [Snapshots, Little Peppermints] of most things from Big Dream Boulevard, because the versions on that album were definitely overproduced and make her sound more generic and less intense than she really is. Exception: "Diamond on Your Hand," which benefits from the dreamy, looped backing vocals.)
Grooveshark has practically everything. In addition to my suggestions from the other day, you might start with "Judas," "Anna," or "Dandelion."
(Just read these lyrics: "Jesus, he was the schoolyard martyr / Was every mother's perfect son / Not like Judas / In the back of the school bus / Invisible to everyone." ZOMG.)

In other news, I oh so desperately want to be finished with this CI 'verse fic I've been writing, on and off (mostly off) for a year. I thought I had finished it the other day, but I went back and re-read it, and...I wrote an essay about Susan Ivanova with some narrative bits stuck at the beginning and the end. *facepalm* That'll teach me to start with what amounts to a thesis statement. Bah.
