It's only December, and yet we've moved beyond the point where "cold" is applicable to the weather. Even "frigid" doesn't really do it justice, since it's approximately 5 degrees (Fahrenheit, for you Celsius weirdos) outside at the moment. Ugh. I broke out the long underwear today, y'all, because the cold was beginning to make it physically painful to walk around the skating rink formerly known as Kenyon. [1] Although I haven't fallen again since Sunday. Things may be looking up. If only my butt and ankle didn't hurt...

[1] Speaking of which...dude. Either get some salt for Middle Path, pronto, or just Zamboni the damn thing and issue everyone a pair of ice skates at matriculation. You can pay for the Zamboni by charging for skate rental from anyone who visits, or admission for local schoolchildren.

Dear Santa...

Dear Santa,

This year I've been busy!

In November I got in line at the supermarket at the same time as someone else and I didn't yield (-8 points). Last Wenesday I donated bone marrow to [livejournal.com profile] tnbella in a life-saving procedure (300 points). In May I put money in [livejournal.com profile] laserhead's expired parking meter (14 points). Last Sunday I helped [livejournal.com profile] spockette across the street (6 points). Last Monday I set [livejournal.com profile] nickless's puppy on fire (-66 points).

Overall, I've been nice (246 points). For Christmas I deserve a new dolly!

Sincerely,
icepixie

Reason number 5,876,935 why Microsoft is The Devil:

So I have this AVI file I'd like to watch. Unfortunately, it was encoded in WMV3 format. No amount of freeware or codecs or anything will play this format on a Mac. Not in Quicktime, not in VLC, not in MPlayer, not even in Windows Media Player (after all, why should Microsoft support their own formats with THEIR OWN FREAKING PROGRAM? *headdesk*). Extensive Google research has convinced me that the only way to play this file would be to use some strange program that converts video and audio streams separately, and involves a certain amount of programing in the Unix shell of the OS, which...no.

Apparently even the Windows version of Windows Media Player sometimes has issues with this particular format. I...ow. The stupidity, it burns, precious, it burrrrrrns! Still might try opening it on one of the school PCs, though.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Hey, [livejournal.com profile] asinpterodactyl, do you think our Linguistics professor would correctly interpret "Claire's offer to draw him a map further emphasizes her position as Virgil to Drew's Dante"? 'Cause I'd have no qualms making that reference in an English paper, but Linguistics...I dunno.

(And despite not actually taking the Dante class, this is the third paper I've written since sophomore year in which I've made reference to the Divine Comedy. What gives?)

In other news, I'm apparently interchangeable with [livejournal.com profile] laserhead. Does this mean I get to use my sudden chem knowledge to blow up the world?
